I visited the Indonesian island of Bali with a travel company called Sacred Sites. We visited Hindu temples, dance
performances, sacred ceremonies, and artisans such as mask and puppet makers.
Bali is certainly the most devout place I've visited. Their Hindu religion permeates everyday life.
Every home has a shrine; every day starts with an offering to the gods. There are neighborhood temples, village
temples, regional and state temples. Religious festivals take place on the anniversary date of each temple. That's
a lot of holidays!
Here I am in my sarong (the beard was temporary). It was considered impolite to visit the Hindu temples without
being properly dressed.
